Using a regular deck of playing cards, the spectator picks the eight of hearts. This card is forced on the spectator by the performer. The card can be shuffled back into the deck by the spectator and the deck can then be put away, as it is no longer needed in the trick. The performer then brings out the cards as supplied with this trick.

The backs have hearts printed on them and must remain hidden until the end of the trick. The display of the eight large printed hearts is the climax of the effect. The performer explains that this is a brand new trick which he is just learning, and that he must refer to the instructions while performing it. He asks the spectator if this is alright, and of course, the spectator will be willing to go along with it. The performer removes cards one at a time from the instructions, reading them and then laying the cards randomly on the table. Care is taken so that the hearts on the backs of the cards are not revealed. Following the instructions, after all cards are Laid out, they are turned over to reveal eight hearts, the chosen card!
