He intends to "influence" the spectators to choose the chips that are worth nothing, while leaving the winning chip for him. Three chips are chosen by the spectators. They are turned over and shown to be worthless. The chip left for the performer is turned over and on the reverse side is written... $50.00. His influence worked again!
