The performer picks someone of the opposite sex to help with an effect. A pack of cards is Fanned out and shown to the audience. The assistant from the audience is asked to take the deck of cards out into the crowd and have four or five cards selected and then return the deck to the performer.

With this done the performer places the cards back into the box and places them on the table. The performer now pretends to hypnotize the assistant so as the assistant will be able to read the minds of the audience.
